The artist’s linear technique is especially interesting be- cause lines are firm in di- rection, yet delicately em- broidered at the edges. This softens the precision of the highly planned draw- ings and creates a gentling effect throughout the whole composition. Special effects are also note- worthy in their two-dimen- sional quality (à la Persian miniatures). The back- ground colours share their intensity with foreground objects, and some pages contain sophisticated per- spective devices that pro- duce a sense of flatness or depth in unusual ways. The result is an intriguing sense of ambiguity in the graphic style, but at the same time, a very clear and consistent method and conceptualization.
